There’s something powerful about a personal story. It’s not just theory. It’s not just belief. It’s your lived experience—and that’s what makes it so effective in evangelism.
In Session 9 of 13 in the GOODNEWS Training series at https://goodnewsjourney.org/training/, we dive into the power of sharing your testimony. This training isn’t about becoming a polished public speaker—it’s about becoming fluent in the one story that no one can argue with: your story of encountering Jesus.
1 John 1:3 says, “We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard.” That’s what a testimony is. You’re not reciting a script—you’re testifying to something real. In a courtroom, a witness doesn’t give a lecture; they simply share what they saw, heard, or experienced. You’re doing the same with your faith.
Think of it this way: There’s a big difference between believing the stove is hot and touching it. Once you’ve touched it, you know. Your story isn’t just about what you believe—it’s about what you know to be true about Jesus.
Here’s a simple framework to shape your testimony into something clear, compelling, and Christ-focused:
✝️ Before:
What was your life like before Jesus? Share the struggles, confusion, emptiness, or sin you faced. Who were you apart from Christ?
✝️ When:
What happened when you trusted Jesus? Was it a moment, a process, a realization? Maybe you were young. Maybe it clicked later. Maybe fear of hell woke you up, or maybe it was a longing for purpose. Whatever it was, share what you remember and what you know is true. Let Jesus be the center of your testimony—because He truly is! His name should be on your lips often.
✝️ After:
How has your life changed since? What did you leave behind? What did you gain? Maybe your story isn’t pain-free—but it’s filled with God’s grace, strength, and purpose. And yes, even the quiet stories have dramatic afters, because salvation changes everything.
And here’s the best part: Your story sets up someone else’s. When you share what Jesus has done in your life, you open the door to ask, “Has anything like that happened to you?”
We cover this in Session 9 of 13 in our Gospel Conversation Training—a series designed to help you become excellent at evangelism. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to sharpen your skills, these sessions are for you.
