How does a group officially adopt a project?
The group leader should click “I’m Interested” on the mission project page to begin. GoodNews Journey will then contact the group’s leader to discuss the project and agree on estimated dates with the missionary, church planter, or ministry partner.
Can individual participants (without a group) register?
Yes, we recommend participants join their own church’s mission trip. However, if their church doesn’t offer one or it doesn’t suit their needs, GoodNews Journey welcomes them to join our network of Certified Sending Partners.
How does an individual officially join a group?
Click “I’m Interested” on a project description to get started. We’ll connect you with an available project, guide you through the application, and our Certified Sending Partner will review it. Upon approval, you’ll receive acceptance and further instructions.
What is a Certified Sending Partner?
Certified Sending Partners invite participants from other churches to join their mission trips. This provides peace of mind for churches and families, knowing that the host leadership ensures a safe and effective mission trip. The Certified Sending Partners’ leadership approves all participants for their trips.
What are the requirements for a church to become a Certified Sending Partner?
– Partner with missionaries, church planters, or ministry partners who adhere to evangelical Christian doctrine.
– Aim for long-term relationships with field personnel.
– Run background checks on participants 18+.
– Require Safe and Secure child safety training for leaders.
– Maintain adult to minor ratios (1:6 In-State, 1:5 Out-of-State, 1:4 Out-of-Country).
– Provide leader and team training for safety, effectiveness, and gospel focus.
– Require applications and references for all participants.
– Secure travel insurance for all team members.
– Require release forms and consent documents.
– Use registration systems (e.g., GoMethod) for tracking requirements and payments.
*GoodNews Journey will assist with these requirements.
Why should a church consider becoming a Certified Sending Partner?
One church can achieve a lot, but multiple churches partnering together can achieve much more. The New Testament shows churches working together for larger goals in Christ’s cause. God’s heart is to strengthen churches and remind them they aren’t alone in the Great Commission. Certified Sending Partners exemplify loving the bride of Christ, helping other churches, and increasing the potential for new ministry partners.
When is the deadline to sign up to join or adopt a project?
Projects vary by dates, location, and capacity. Groups should plan 9-18 months ahead for a quality trip. Individuals should sign up ASAP. The Certified Sending Partner will set deadlines. Email us with questions. brian@goodnewsjourney.org
How will out-of-state participants secure airfare? When will they need to by?
After coordinating project dates, the project coordinator will select flights for the team, either as individual or group airfare. GoodNews Journey can recommend travel agents. The project coordinator will inform the group about flight details and payment instructions. If the church buys group airfare, the coordinator sets payment deadlines; if individual airfare, full payment is due upfront. Airfare should be booked ASAP for best prices and absolutely must be secured 60 days before the trip.
Who runs the mission trips?
GoodNews Journey helps churches and individuals with trips, which are owned and run by adopting churches. Those churches willing to be Certified Sending Partners (CSP’s) have coordinators that are experienced leaders meeting high standards set by GoodNews Journey. Requirements include long-term field partnerships, background checks, Safe and Secure child safety training, appropriate adult-to-minor ratios, mission training, travel insurance, consent forms, and registration/payment programs.
Who can go?
GoodNews Journey offers mission trips for youth, college students, families, and adults, including all-men and all-women trips. Every participant is vetted and approved by the trip coordinator through an application. Everyone should click the “I’m Interested” button on the desired trip type to get started.
How much do trips fully cost?
Trips are priced based on ground costs (lodging, meals, local transportation, ministry expenses). Airfare, passports, and visas for out-of-state projects are not covered by GoodNews Journey and are the responsibility of the church group or individual. We gladly provide advice and help though. We recommend working with a travel agent and can provide a recommendation.
Will a deposit be required for a participant to officially be accepted on a project?
Yes. The deposit amount can be between $15-$150 depending on the project (Usually 10% of the ground cost). It will be required to be paid at the end of the trip application. This deposit is applied to the trip cost if the applicant is accepted and refunded if denied. The deposit is typically non-refundable once accepted.
How will the participants make payment for their trip?
GoodNews Journey handles registration, requirements, and payments through GoMethod. Payments can be made via ACH bank transfer from the applicant’s secure profile or by check. For mailing address and instructions email brian@goodnewsjourney.org. Some projects may accept credit cards, depending on the adopting church’s preference. GoodNews Journey will coordinate with the adopting church to set payment deadlines.
How safe are the projects?
Projects are in safe locations, monitored by GoodNews Journey, the adopting church, and local ministry leaders. All leaders and team members receive training. Participants are covered by travel insurance and must complete applications, provide references, and undergo vetting. Minors are always supervised with an appropriate adult-to-student ratio.
Our church has a connection with a Missionary, Church Planter, or Ministry Partner. Can we use this pathway for a trip?
Yes! We’d be glad to consider bringing your church and missions partner into the GoodNews Journey missions network. Fill out an Interest Form at the bottom of one of the project descriptions to get started. Missionaries, Church Planters, and Ministry Partners must adhere to the doctrines of evangelical Christianity.
