Why do we share the gospel?
In a world that’s overwhelmed with distractions, it’s easy for believers to lose sight of the urgency behind the gospel. But when you truly understand the stakes — eternal lives and eternal destinies — everything changes!
This second video in our GOODNEWS training is all about gospel urgency: the why behind our mission. If you haven’t already, make plans to walk through all 13 training sessions designed to help believers become excellent at evangelism. You can start anytime at https://goodnewsjourney.org/training/
Three Fuels That Ignite Gospel Urgency
Think about firefighters. They don’t casually respond to emergencies. They act with intensity and speed because lives are on the line. We, too, are on a rescue mission — not just for physical lives but for souls.
1. The Command
Jesus didn’t make a suggestion. He gave a command: “Go and make disciples of all nations” (Matt. 28:19), “Preach to all nations” (Luke 24:47), “As the Father has sent me, I’m sending you” (John 20:21). Too many believers treat the Great Commission like the “Great Omission.” If we truly love our King — Jesus — we’ll do what He says. Obedience is love in action.
2. Compassion
People around us are suffering. Some are headed for eternal separation from God, and many are already walking through a kind of hell here on earth. Depression, anxiety, suicide, brokenness — the gospel is the answer. Hell is real, and Jesus spoke of it often—not to frighten us, but to awaken us to the urgency of salvation. If we truly feel its weight, like Jesus did, we’ll be compelled to reach others and “snatch them from the fire” (Jude 1:23).
3. Investment
We often live for things that won’t matter a hundred years from now. But Jesus said, “Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven” (Matt. 6:20). When you share the gospel, you’re making an investment in eternity — one that won’t be forgotten after just a few generations. Don’t settle for a temporary impact when you were made for an eternal one.
Let these three fuels — command, compassion, and investment — fill your tank. Because this mission isn’t optional. It’s urgent!
