Don’t Drop the Ball at the One-Yard Line

Have you ever seen a football player make an incredible run across the entire field, only to drop the ball just inches from the end zone? Painful, right? Now imagine doing that in a spiritual conversation—getting all the way to the point of decision and never actually inviting someone to trust in Jesus.

That happens all the time in evangelism.

In this 11th video of our 13-part Gospel Conversation Training Series, we talk about the critical moment when you’re one question away from leading someone to new life in Christ. You’ve already started the conversation, listened well, admired what you could, shared your story, and explained the gospel. You’re practically in the end zone. Now it’s time to draw the net.

And yes—you can do it. This isn’t just the pastor’s job. It’s not just for the missionary or the professional. If God brought you to this moment, He wants to use you to lead them across the line of faith.

Think about it. There are over 8 billion people on the planet. The fact that your life collided with this person’s—and that you’ve come this far in the conversation—is no accident. That’s a divine appointment. So don’t back out now.

Instead, ask two simple, powerful questions:

  1. “Does what we’ve talked about make sense?”
This helps you clarify that they understand the gospel and are processing what you’ve shared.

  2. “Is there anything keeping you from putting your trust in Jesus right now?”
That’s the moment. That’s the question. It’s the one that shakes heaven and hell. If they say “no”—then it’s go time. Show them how to call on the name of the Lord, just like Romans 10:13 promises:
“Everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved.”

This moment of invitation is one of the most important parts of becoming excellent at evangelism. And the best part? You don’t have to do it alone.

This is just Session 11 of a 13-part video series designed to help you grow in your ability to confidently and clearly share Jesus. Whether you’re just getting started or want to sharpen your skills, we’re here to help you get in the game—and get to the end zone!
